A lot of people think in a project as something big or expensive and therefore they think that a job of project manager should be very stressful and demanding. However, just few people understand that all of us are managing projects daily. Yes! Daily! So I guess this statement breaks many ideas you had right ?
Everything that has a beginning and the end is a project. It has a unique result which is measureable. It doesn’t need to be big or expensive, it is not always strategic or critical, it is not necessarily difficult to manage and it is not restricted to your professional life. Yes! You have a lot of projects at home and probably you already managed most of them ! Maybe you didn’t do that in the best way but you did it ! Remember that projects are not always successful.
Are your surprised with what I mentioned before? Are you trying to identify which projects you had ? Well … maybe planning a birthday party or planning a trip are in your list. They don’t need to be big and expensive neither stressful or demanding. Many people probably enjoy planning a trip or a party but they never thought those were projects. Projects are not ongoing operations or processes.
When you start a project you need to identify your need or client’s need, then you need to think about what you can do/build to fullfill the project’s needs, next you need to plan how to do that and what do you need to do that, which are the steps you need to follow. Once you have a plan in place, execute it and monitor its progress until you close it.
There are 3 important areas in which we should think about every time that we need to manage a project:
Scope, Time and Budget
You need to know what you are going to do, when you need to have that ready and how much you can spend on that, don’t you?
Please review the next blogs and discover some basic information that will help you to control these 3 areas to complete a project successfully and remember project management basics can be applied in your personal and business life.
